We're both 18, but he's somehow made like 30 grand through the stock market, which is crazy for his age. He randomly bid on this tonight because he wants to start flipping cars. His current DD is an E46 330Ci which is in great condition. So, what do you guys think? NP or CP? Is the car going to burst into flames due to electrical issues? I think he's crazy, but I'm excited to go with him to pick it up this weekend

There's another Oppo who has one actually, lives in NYC as well.
The thing will overheat before you have a chance to notice the electrical issues. More power to him for being successful, but he's about to embark on the biggest uphill battle he's ever tried to fight.
What is it that they say about uphill battles again?

I can understand the impulse, it's a beautiful car - with a V12! - and this one looks very clean.
As your friend is looking to flip it he won't come to curse the name Lucas, or seek explanations as to this car's unreliability in labor relations in Thatcherite England in the 1980's.
May be difficult to get a quick flip, though. He may be sitting on it for a while.

I say NP, as long as his wrench-turning and electrical skills are as good as his stock picking acumen. Done right, he could have some real fun and turn a profit with that. Good on him.

Bring a lot of cash, and a phone. Worst case, call for the tow.
Those V12 engines are shy devils that don't like sunlight, popping the hood may not reveal anything helpful, because it will have sunken into the engine bay farther and farther the higher you lifted the hood.
Also if you're taking the highways, keep it around 55, and keep a constant eye on the temp gauge. If it starts to climb, just pull over. It's not going to get better by going faster.

CP for the amount of time and money it's going to eat and how long he's going to sit on it. Should have bought an XJ6 or XJR.

I love those cars :) rule is don't buy a ratty one unless you don't mind putting a lot of things right, but I know of a number of people who DD these so they can't be nearly as bad as you'd think :)
